Psalm 20 English Standard Version Trust in the Name of the LORD Our GodTo the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. 20 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! 2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion! 3 May he remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah 4 May he grant you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans! 5 May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions! 6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. 8 They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. 9 O LORD, save the king! May he answer us when we call. David reminds the people in this psalm that it is the LORD who fights their battles for them, the one who answers their cries for help, and the one that protects and defends His covenant people. The sanctuary referred to here is heaven, so David is calling on God to dispatch angelic warriors and all the forces as HIs command to help His people in their times of need and distress. David calls on the LORD to remember the atonement that has been made by the people so that He would not hold their sins against them and not put them under judgment, but they would be in a right relationship with Him to experience His protection and blessings. The people will celebrate the LORD's salvation and deliverance. They will praise and display for all to see the name of the LORD (like a banner going into battle). David says he is now certain that the LORD saves His anointed and answers him from heaven with all the power symbolized by his "right hand." I've posted below based on the "some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God" passage. David then says that it is the LORD who saves and protects him (the king), and prays that the LORD will always hear and answer the cries of His people. Comments are closed.

Daniel WestfallI will mostly use this space for recording my "journal" from my daily devotions as I hope to encourage others to read the Bible along with me and to leave a legacy for others. Archives
