Psalm 112 English Standard Version The Righteous Will Never Be Moved 112 Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commandments! 2 His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. 5 It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice. 6 For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever. 7 He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. 8 His heart is steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. 9 He has distributed freely; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn is exalted in honor. 10 The wicked man sees it and is angry; he gnashes his teeth and melts away; the desire of the wicked will perish! Who is this righteous man of whom this psalm speaks, for certainly we know from the book of Romans,
Romans 3:10-12 English Standard Version10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” Paul is actually quoting from Psalm 14 when he says, "as it is written." But we know there is one who is called the Righteous One, Jesus, the Son of God. He alone stands to inherit the blessings of this Psalm, so in that sense, it is a Messianic Psalm, and then it all starts to make sense. He perfectly feared the LORD and loved His commandments (and obeyed them all). His spiritual offspring [all those who come to God by Him] will be richly blessing in the coming kingdom, not because of what they have done to be righteous enough to earn God's blessings on their own merit, but because of the surpassing righteousness of Christ alone that is imputed to them. Light dawns and drives away the darkness. The Light of Christ will be victorious, and evil will be vanquished. In the New Heavens and the New Earth there will be no more night and no longer need for sun, moon or stars, because the Lord Himself will be the Light of that City--the City of God. The Lord will establish His throne and he will never be replaced. All of His enemies will be destroyed. While man may die and his name will be forgotten, the name of Jesus, the Christ will be remembered forever and ever as we praise Him all of our days. We will tell of the salvation He has accomplished for His people as we sing a new song to the Lord. Even the bitter cup that He had to drink from to accomplish the Father's plan (which we would certainly call "bad news") did not make Him stop believing in the coming blessings for Him and all those who belonged to Him. "He distributes freely" tells of how He imputes His righteousness and the blessings that only He deserves onto us. We are the ones who are poor and needy (especially in a spiritual sense). His strength (that is what the horn is a symbol of) is raised up and exalted in honor. The wicked will see this from hell, and they will continue to rebel against the Lord and be angry that He has received all the blessings promised to Him and given them freely to those that belong to Him. They will covet the good things that God has for His children and therefore they will continually, perpetually sin. In their anger, they will curse at the Righteous One, but their fate is secure in that they will perish in the Lake of Fire, which is the Second Death. Comments are closed.
