Proverbs 23:6-10 English Standard Version 6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies, 7 for he is like one who is inwardly calculating. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. 8 You will vomit up the morsels that you have eaten, and waste your pleasant words. 9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words. 10 Do not move an ancient landmark or enter the fields of the fatherless, Be careful about accepting gifts or hospitality of any kind (even food and drink) from someone who keeps a little black book in reality or in their head (always talking about how they did someone a favor and that favor has never been repaid). A stingy person like this may pretend to be your friend, but they are really looking to have something to hold over your head and to use against you. Be careful when around them--everything they do is a trap, even if it looks good to others.
Don't waste your time with a fool either. He has no desire to hear good sense. He wants you to give him permission to engage in his foolish conduct, but thinks if you approve of it, he can then blame you for not stopping him or giving tacit endorsement. Better to say nothing so that he cannot interpret anything you say as a blessing or approval of his foolishness. Last thing for today, the ancient landmarks that showed the boundaries between the tribes and clans for God's covenant with His people were not to be moved by men (sometimes God would move them with earthquakes or natural disasters, but that's different). Trespassing with intent to steal the land or the produce of the land was a serious offense to God. Comments are closed.

Daniel WestfallI will mostly use this space for recording my "journal" from my daily devotions as I hope to encourage others to read the Bible along with me and to leave a legacy for others. Archives
