Proverbs 14:25-28 English Standard Version 25 A truthful witness saves lives, but one who breathes out lies is deceitful. 26 In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge. 27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death. 28 In a multitude of people is the glory of a king, but without people a prince is ruined. Our first part of today's passage is a reminder to be truthful in all things, even when it seems hard. A truthful witness saves lives, but that's not true with a deceitful witness who despises his oath and will say anything while under oath. The one who bears false witness puts the lives of innocent people in jeopardy, as he tries to shift the blame away from himself to others. The honest person takes responsibility for what he has done wrong without blaming anyone innocent.
The one who fears the LORD and obeys Him has nothing to fear in the life to come and expects the blessings of obedience for himself and his descendants in this life. He also hopes that his descendants will follow his faithful example and will themselves fear the LORD and obey Him so that they will also experience His blessings both now and forevermore. The fear of the LORD (to hear the Word of the LORD and obey it), is a fountain of life, as you turn away from the snares of sin and death as you obey God's Word. It is not just earthly kings that desire the praise and adoration of those that they rule over. The LORD Himself desires true worshipers who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. We have become citizens of His Kingdom so that we might obey and serve Him and worship Him, for He is worthy of all glory and honor and praise. What is an earthly king with no people to rule over? He is just a man in charge of his piece of land, but his kingdom dies with Him. Since the LORD will establish an everlasting Kingdom, the land and people He will rule over will be forever and ever. We as kingdom citizens and worshipers are a part of God's eternal plan for His Kingdom that will not pass away. Comments are closed.
