Proverbs 13:18-21 English Standard Version 18 Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored. 19 A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but to turn away from evil is an abomination to fools. 20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. 21 Disaster pursues sinners, but the righteous are rewarded with good. The foolish person who rejects wisdom and wise counsel will have their reputation and their life ruined by their poor choices and the fallout from those bad choices. There will be no one that will honor or respect them. It should make us happy (like eating something sweet) to make a good choice and avoid a bad outcome, but the foolish person runs towards evil instead of running away from it. They call bitter things sweet, and they call the darkness light. Their moral compass is so upside down and backwards that they believe that obeying God is an abomination but love to do the very things that God calls abominations.
You will choose friends that will either make you more wise or more foolish. You will choose people like yourself that will encourage you to go in the direction that you want to go in. "Bad company corrupts good character." Foolish decisions don't just harm the fool, but everyone else who hangs out with them. You can be guilty just by being associated with them, especially if everyone conspired together or there was a kind of depraved indifference where you saw what was going to happen and you did nothing to stop it or get help for the person that was being victimized. God allows sinners to experience disaster after disaster so that maybe they will get the message that they are going the wrong way and need to repent. However, as a general principle the righteous are rewarded with blessings so that others can look and see that it is more desirable to be obedient than to be rebellious. Comments are closed.
