Mark 9:30-32 English Standard Version Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection 30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” 32 But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him. Jesus is now trying to focus primarily on teaching His disciples the last and most important things that He wants to teach them before His death, burial and resurrection and He tells them plainly about these things so that they will not be surprised (hopefully when everything turns out exactly according to plan. For years, Jesus has been focusing on the crowds and multitudes, but now He is laser-focused on these 12 men, and especially Peter, James and John.
It does not appear that Pater or anyone else in the group tries to tell Jesus that this isn't going to happen this time--that didn't go over so well last time when Peter tried to forbid the Lord from going through with this plan. However, the text tells us they were kept from understanding what He was talking about, and they were afraid to ask Him about it. As the time gets closer and closer, Jesus gets more and more direct with them about these things, but it is not until the Holy Spirit comes upon them that He brings all things to their rememberance and they understand what Jesus and the Scriptures had been saying.
