Complacent Women Warned of Disaster
9 Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice;
    you complacent daughters, give ear to my speech.
10 In little more than a year
    you will shudder, you complacent women;
for the grape harvest fails,
    the fruit harvest will not come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease,
    shudder, you complacent ones;
strip, and make yourselves bare,
    and tie sackcloth around your waist.
12 Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields,
    for the fruitful vine,
13 for the soil of my people
    growing up in thorns and briers,
yes, for all the joyous houses
    in the exultant city.
14 For the palace is forsaken,
    the populous city deserted;
the hill and the watchtower
    will become dens forever,
a joy of wild donkeys,
    a pasture of flocks;
15 until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,
    and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field,
    and the fruitful field is deemed a forest.
16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,
    and righteousness abide in the fruitful field.
17 And the effect of righteousness will be peace,
    and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.
18 My people will abide in a peaceful habitation,
    in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.
19 And it will hail when the forest falls down,
    and the city will be utterly laid low.
20 Happy are you who sow beside all waters,
    who let the feet of the ox and the donkey range free.

The disobedience and rebellion of the people--men and women, young and old alike--will lead to physical manifestations in the Land that represent the heart condition of the people.  The Land will cease to bear fruit and will become a wilderness and wasteland.  The palace will be left empty--no king will sit on the throne.  The vineyards that produced wine for pleasure and for export (a main source of the country's revenue) would become briar patches.  The fields and vineyards would become the stomping grounds for donkeys and areas that were once well-maintained would become grasslands for locks to feed on.  All the watchtowers and other defenses would be abandoned and torn down.  There would be nothing left to defend.

This would be the way it would stay until the Spirit would once again be poured out on the LORD's people and He would change them from the inside out.  He would make that which was dead alive again, and the LORD allowed the Land to mirror physically what was happening to His people spiritually.  The people have been brought back into the Land.  The Land is fertile again and it has not only fields, but forests, just as this prophecy foretold.  This indicates to me that the people of God are on their way to a spiritual revival that is promised in the book of Romans and something that seems necessary for the end times.  The time of the Gentiles may soon be coming to an end as the LORD's people (the nation of Israel) returns to Him.  He allowed salvation to come to the Gentiles and to let Gentiles be ministers of the Gospel for a time, but it was to make the nation of Israel jealous.  His goal is for Israel to once again come to Him and to once again be His witnesses to take the gospel to the whole world (see the 144,000 witnesses He has prepared in the book of Revelation who are from all the 12 Tribes of Israel).
