Isaiah 2:1-5 English Standard Version The Mountain of the Lord 2 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, 3 and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. 5 O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD. We are still talking about "The Day of the LORD" here (the day in which God has victory over His enemies and His people receive the blessings of His covenant). Whether the geography of the planet will actually shift to make Jerusalem the highest point on the earth, or this is poetic (for the whole book of Isaiah is written in poetic form) the passage says that the Temple and Jerusalem will be exalted among all the inhabitants of the Earth. Whether they physically look up to it or hold it in high esteem, it will be a place of glory and honor like no other. The peoples of the world will desire to go up to the mountain of the LORD--to the house of the God of Jacob. Why? Because they will want to learn His paths, so that they can walk in them. Once again, the Law will go forth from Zion teaching men of all nations what it is the LORD requires of them, and the Word of the LORD (the Scriptures and the message of the Christ) will be proclaimed from Jerusalem to all the world.
The LORD will establish His Son as both King and Judge over the nations. The God-Man able to judge all men, because He was the one man who perfectly fulfilled all of the Law and the Prophets. He will settle all disputes between His people and the peoples of the world and there will be perfect peace. The people will no longer need weapons for self-defense or to make war. Swords and spears will be repurposed to be instruments for farming. The battle that He brings to destroy His enemies will certainly be a war to end all wars, but it will be unlike any other "war" we have seen as He will speak, and all of His enemies will be destroyed. Isaiah cries for the people of the twelve tribes of Israel (both the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom) to once again be the people of God and to walk in His light so that they might be ready to receive His peace and His blessings at the time of His coming. Will they be ready for Him? Will we be ready for Him? He is coming quickly at a time that we don't expect. Soon and very soon, we are going to see the King! Comments are closed.
