2 Kings 15:23-26 English Standard Version Pekahiah Reigns in Israel 23 In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah the son of Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned two years. 24 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin. 25 And Pekah the son of Remaliah, his captain, conspired against him with fifty men of the people of Gilead, and struck him down in Samaria, in the citadel of the king's house with Argob and Arieh; he put him to death and reigned in his place. 26 Now the rest of the deeds of Pekahiah and all that he did, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. Pekahiah, the son of Menahem began to reign in Israel after the death of his father. This took place in the fiftieth year of Azariah (Uzziah), king of Judah. Pekahiah did not reign long reign as king of Israel--only two years. He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD (no surprise there) as he did not turn away from the sin of Jeroboam I, which led all of Israel to sin.
Pekah, son of Remaliah, and Pekahiah's captain (think general in charge of the army, as that is probably what "captain" means here) conspired against the king along with fifty men of Gilead to strike down the king in Samaria--even in the king's own house--along with Argob and Arieh (probably his sons that would have reigned in his place). They put him to death, and Pekah reigned in the place of Pekahiah. As with the other kings, readers are encouraged to look at the official chronicles of the kings of Israel ,but we have no additional biblical texts to look at to get any more of his story, so these chronicles being discussed are historical, but not biblical texts.
