2 Chronicles 9:29-31 English Standard Version Solomon's Death 29 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, from first to last, are they not written in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat? 30 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years. 31 And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father, and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place. The authors of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah are not interested in giving ever detail of the life of each king. We can pick up more details reading 1st and 2nd Kings, but we're also pointed to other sources such as the writings of Nathan the prophet, the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and the visions of Iddo the seer for more information about Solomon, his son Rehoboam, and the rebellion and sin of Jeroboam that led to the kingdom being divided. It is not their intent to tell that whole story again when we can read it other places.
We just get a short statement here wrapping up the life of Solomon that establishes a patter for us of how these priests will let us know when a "good" king died. They will usually live many years, and they will be buried in The City of David (that is Jerusalem) with the other kings who have died before them. If the king was a "bad" king, then he would not be buried with the other kings or may not even be buried in Jerusalem at all. These chronicles will only focus on the kings of Judah who were heirs to the Davidic Covenant and were in the line of the Messiah--that is what the priests writing this are most concerned about. God is a covenant-keeping God even when His people aren't a covenant-keeping people. He preserved the line of David even throughout the coming Exile to Babylon. Ultimately though this book is about God and His perfect plan to bring about a better king--the one who would not only be King of the Jews, but the one who would be King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
