2 Chronicles 29:1-2 English Standard Version Hezekiah Reigns in Judah 29 Hezekiah began to reign when he was twenty-five years old, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah. 2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done. Short passage today, but we'll be talking more about Hezekiah and the reforms that he brought in the coming days. For now, the text lets us know that Hezekiah was 25 years old when he became king--old enough to see all the mistakes that his father made and to know that he never wanted to be that kind of man when he became king. Instead of emulating his father, he instead looked to David to be his example of how to be "a man after God's own heart." While David was by no means a perfect king, he was the one by which all the other good kings have been measured.
