2 Chronicles 28:1-4 English Standard Version Ahaz Reigns in Judah 28 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done, 2 but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made metal images for the Baals, 3 and he made offerings in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom and burned his sons as an offering, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel. 4 And he sacrificed and made offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree. The son of Jotham also reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, but he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD. He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel (worshiping idols--specifically the Baals). He made offerings to the Baals in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom and even sacrificed his children to Molech. In fact, he worshiped in all the high places and on the hills under every green tree (a place where people "worshiped" by engaging in sexual sin associated with paganism). He worshiped any false god other than the LORD and was utterly rebellious against the LORD and His Law. I'm sure the people loved him because they too had turned away from the LORD as we saw with Jotham (who did what was right, but the people wouldn't follow him and continued in their sin).
The end of this seems obvious to us, especially with a short passage like this. God has to do something! But what? We'll see how God moves next time to turn the hearts of His people and draw them back to Him once again. Comments are closed.
