1 Chronicles 7:14-19 English Standard Version Descendants of Manasseh 14 The sons of Manasseh: Asriel, whom his Aramean concubine bore; she bore Machir the father of Gilead. 15 And Machir took a wife for Huppim and for Shuppim. The name of his sister was Maacah. And the name of the second was Zelophehad, and Zelophehad had daughters. 16 And Maacah the wife of Machir bore a son, and she called his name Peresh; and the name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rakem. 17 The son of Ulam: Bedan. These were the sons of Gilead the son of Machir, son of Manasseh. 18 And his sister Hammolecheth bore Ishhod, Abiezer, and Mahlah. 19 The sons of Shemida were Ahian, Shechem, Likhi, and Aniam. I believe these are the descendants of the half-tribe of Manasseh that lived in Canaan as we already talked about the Transjordanian half-tribe of Manasseh earlier. Note that it's usually the Transjordanian half that is called "the half-tribe of Manasseh." The heads of the tribal clans and families for the tribe of Manasseh are listed here, but there is no census data with it to tell us how many fighting men were among them. We'll have to rely on the numbers from David's census that he took earlier like we have done with some of the other tribes. They were part of the ten tribes of Israel that went into captivity by the hand of the Assyrians. Genetic tools are starting to allow us to figure out who is part of what tribe of Israel and to help us find some of these "lost" tribes (God has never lost track of them). I find this interesting that we're figuring out this information at just the right time in history for it to be obvious to all that God's plan for 12,000 witnesses from each tribe of Israel other than the apostate tribe of Dan will be evangelists to the nation of Israel and the whole world during the end times. Are we living in the end times or the last days? Certainly! How close to the end? No one knows--and we are told not to set dates because even Jesus didn't know them. However, we can look at the Bible and see that everything is coming together according to plan.
We have just a couple more tribes of Israel to talk about before we get to the priest's summary of the reigns of Saul, David Solomon, and the other kings of Judah. Thanks for hanging in there during these genealogies as it once again shows that the LORD has been faithful to keep His covenant even when His people were not faithful. Comments are closed.
