1 Chronicles 7:1-5 English Standard Version Descendants of Issachar 7 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub, and Shimron, four. 2 The sons of Tola: Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam, and Shemuel, heads of their fathers' houses, namely of Tola, mighty warriors of their generations, their number in the days of David being 22,600. 3 The son of Uzzi: Izrahiah. And the sons of Izrahiah: Michael, Obadiah, Joel, and Isshiah, all five of them were chief men. 4 And along with them, by their generations, according to their fathers' houses, were units of the army for war, 36,000, for they had many wives and sons. 5 Their kinsmen belonging to all the clans of Issachar were in all 87,000 mighty warriors, enrolled by genealogy. We know about the sons of Issachar because we are told that the LORD gave them wisdom to understand the times that they lived in (1 Chronicles 12:32). Here, we just get the basic genealogy information--it seems like the bare minimum, especially compared to the tribe of Levi that we just talked about. We have the heads of the families given, and their number that was taken in the last census by David, and the number of fighting men (notice they had more men in the army than were counted in the census, so the tribe has grown or this is one of the tribes that Joab did not give a full accounting for when he knew David was sinning by taking a second census that the LORD had not decreed)
They now had 36,000 men of fighting age and 87,000 kinsmen (probably counting the older and younger men that were not yet of the age to fight. We don't have much more said about them now or much of anywhere else in the Old Testament after this. They were part of the northern 10 tribes that were taken into Exile by Assyria and we do not hear about them after that until the book of Revelation when they are part of the 144,000 witnesses.
