Isaiah 57:14-21 English Standard Version Comfort for the Contrite 14 And it shall be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people's way.” 15 For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite. 16 For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry; for the spirit would grow faint before me, and the breath of life that I made. 17 Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry, I struck him; I hid my face and was angry, but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart. 18 I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners, 19 creating the fruit of the lips. Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the LORD, “and I will heal him. 20 But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up mire and dirt. 21 There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” Nothing will prevent the LORD from fulfilling His plans and purposes for Himself and His people. The LORD will not wait forever to deliver on His covenant promises, nor will He wait forever for those who say they will make a decision someday about becoming citizens of His Kingdom. The day is coming when all those who have rejected Him will be stuck with that decision they made and those that have put their faith in Him will have their faith become sight. He wrath has been held back for a long time, but there is coming a day when it will be poured out on all those who have made the decision to rebel against Him.
The LORD will not His wrath be poured out on those whom He has made righteous through the righteousness of the Son. He will give healing and comfort and restoration to those who are in need. The wicked will not know His peace though that belong only to those that belong to Him. They will be as unsettled as the ocean that is tossed to and from by the wind. Always churning and experiencing wave after wave--never at rest. There will be no peace or rest for the wicked As I swore in my wrath, "They shall not enter my rest" (Hebrews 3:11, Hebrews 4:3, Psalm 95:11) Comments are closed.
