The Word of God Stands Forever
6 A voice says, “Cry!”
    And I said, “What shall I cry?”
All flesh is grass,
    and all its beauty is like the flower of the field.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades
    when the breath of the LORD blows on it;
    surely the people are grass.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades,
    but the word of our God will stand forever.

The nation of Israel had some belief that the LORD might exempt them from the judgment that He had proclaimed on them because of their family tree or the presence of the Temple in Jerusalem or something else, but Isaiah is told to make his proclamation and to make it loudly for all the hear.  What was he to proclaim?  That all life is as fleeting as the grass and the flowers unless the breath of the LORD (breath, wind, and Spirit are all the same word in Hebrew) kept them alive.  That is, God did not just give us life in the Garden and then cease to interact with us like the Deist says.  No, if God didn't continue to give us life, we would quickly die--physically and spiritually.

It is different for the Word of God however, since it comes from the Spirit of the LORD, it too will stand forever.  People come and people go just like the grass withers and flowers fade away, but the Word of God is established firmly and stands forever.  Jesus would repeat this in the New Testament and add that heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will never pass away, and that "not a jot or tiddle" (not the smallest part) of the Law or the Prophets would pass away until all of it had been fulfilled and accomplished.  We can build our theology and our lives on the sure foundation of the Word of God.
